GARI OUR BOY

Gari was born on a cold night of 28th December 1984 on the day of innocent children in a litter of three boys and one girl. As I already told you he was my childhood dreams come true and I had the first choice. I still remember when I heard the wonderful news that Yorkies were born at family Benedičič in Škofja Loka, Slovenia. I was jumping overhelmed with joy and I could not wait three too long weeks to see my future dog. So I first saw the puppies when they were three weeks old. They looked so cute and one of them was very brave. He was very courious and came right to me as he was choosing me for his new owner. It was love at first sight; he left a lasting impression on me and I knew right away he is going to be my boy. We gave him the name Gari. His other brothers were Gary and Gugi who stayed in Slovenia and his sister was Gigi who went to live in Paris. We visited him at least every week and I was counting the days until he could leave his mother and came to live with me.

Finally the magical 22nd February 1985 arrived and that was the day when Gari finally came into our lives. He changed my life completely and before we knew he captured our hearts and we were owned by him. He was such a great dog with great presence and personality. He only was using a body of a small dog. Everything else on him was great. We allowed him everything and so he became the leader of the pack. He knew moves of each family member and he always got what he wanted. He was a very tenacious little boy and very vocal when he wanted attention. He felt best when he was surrounded by crowds of people who admired him and he always wanted to be in the centre of the attention. He was a show-off born dog always very proud and self assured. He was very dominant but always very friendly and bigger dogs respected him. Despite his size he always left an impression of important air.

He was very choisy about food and only the best was good enough for him. He also had a mind of his own and was quite stubborn at times, so despite his diminutive size he was a very dominant and very proud dog with a very big heart. He took part in all kinds of activities: he went with us to seaside and was a very good swimmer (he loved water), he went with us for long walks, outings and journeys and was everywhere a very welcomed guest. Everyone who met him liked him immediately, he knew how to capture people's hearts so he had many friends and admirers. He was an excellent watch dog and with his loud barking our home was always safe from intruders.

In his youth years his best friend was a giant Leonberger and when Lejka joined our family, the two of them became inseparable friends. Gari was my best friend in my growing-up period, he knew all my secrets and he was always there for me. Between us there was a special bond that can't be broken even after Gari's death. He was with me more than half of my life and he was my best friend and confidant. With his death a part of my heart also died. One thing I'm sure of is that I will never have such a special friend as I found in Gari. He will always have a special place in my heart and when the time is right we will cross the Rainbow Bridge together.
